Kindergarten and Mrs. Morton’s class did not have art on the Week of Aug. 9th. 4th grade worked on a landscape art project with a substitute.
Kindergarten Aug. 16th : The students completed their line monsters!
First Grade: The students learned about the abstract art of Pablo Picasso. In class, we examined the painting, The Weeping Woman. Using Playcolor sticks, cardstock, and black marker, the students created an abstract self-portrait.
2nd Grade and Mrs. Morton’s class: The students completed their Hello Goodbye-window collage portraits. They look fantastic!
3rd grade: For this art lesson, we focused on an Element of art, shape. We looked at several paintings and photographs of sculptures with geometric and organic shapes. The students began their foil embossed art piece. First, they designed a simple organic shaped drawing. Then they added white glue and yarn to the lines. Next week they will add foil and permanent marker.
5th grade: The students completed their Pop Art words. Afterwards, the students started their Tessellation art. The 5th graders looked at the tessellation art created by M.C. Escher. This art incorporated geometry and art. The students created their “tessellation template”. For the second session, we will tesselate the templates and turn the shapes into art.
6th grade: The focus of the 6th grade lesson was value. We examined the artwork of Mexican-American artist, Elizabeth Catlett. We discussed her use of light and dark in her work, The Sharecropper. For this art project, the students selected a black and white photo. Then they mapped out all the lines and created shapes around the different shades of light and dark. They will continue next week by shading in their photo with pencil.
Mrs. Simmon’s class: The students completed their Paint with Marker Sunflowers inspired by Vincent Van Gogh.
